NDIS Overview

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a transformative initiative by the Australian Government, designed to offer individualised support for people with disabilities, their families, and carers.

The primary purpose of the NDIS is to “Support individuals with a significant and permanent disability (participants) to be more independent and engage socially and economically, while delivering a financially sustainable NDIS that builds genuinely connected and engaged communities and stakeholders”. (NDIS Corporate Plan 2022-2026)

Align Ability Support Services proudly aligns with the NDIS framework, ensuring our clients receive the utmost care and access to the services they’re entitled to.

Here’s an overview of what the NDIS entails and how it interlinks with our service offerings:

Understanding the NDIS

The NDIS seeks to provide all Australians under the age of 65 who have a permanent and significant disability with the reasonable and necessary support they need to enjoy a more able life. It’s not just about funding; it’s about having choice and control over your life and the supports and services you engage with.

The NDIS takes a lifetime approach to the delivery of disability support services, so your support plan will change overtime in accordance with your changing needs and goals. The NDIS also offers more opportunities for early intervention, which means you get support before the point of crisis, helping to reduce the impact of disability on your life.

Key Features of the NDIS

  • Individualised Plans
NDIS participants work with a planner to identify their goals and the support they need, resulting in a bespoke plan tailored to their aspirations and requirements.
  • Funding Flexibility
NDIS provides participants with a flexible funding package, allowing them to choose and access the services and supports that best fit their needs.
  • Local Area Coordinators (LACs)
LACs play a critical role in linking participants with the broader system of services, ensuring they receive comprehensive assistance.
